Old-time Country Dancing can be a great way to bring people together from all walks of life. You may remember hearing; do-si-do your partner, allemande left your corner, circle left or swing your partner- these are movements you will do at a country dance. All dances are taught prior and bringing a partner is not necessary, as we encourage dancing with everyone! Live music will enhance your experience. Find yourself in a square dance, a circle, or a longway set (like the Virginia Reel), or waltz to the mesmerizing tune of the fiddler! Feel free to bring along a picnic dinner and enjoy refreshments from our gift shop!
When: July 26th, September 14th and October 5th 2018

Embarqued in Lavender: An informal showing

Please come to enjoy this community event at Lavender Hill Farm! Donations are suggested to support Bliss Fest’s Tiny Rooms Concert Series. Company SBB, an interdisciplinary dance theater company, in a creative residency at Crojik’s Croft will be dancing in the Lavender Fields the evening of Thursday, August 16th. Guests are welcome to bring blankets and picnic during the performance where you’ll be greeted by the dancers upon your arrival. This act of greeting and welcoming is a continuation of the company SBB work BievenueWelcome! Be inspired as the dancers flow through the fields and transition into the informal showing of company SBB’s new work, Embarqued.

  • “Embarqued renders in three-dimensions the historical community plaques that pay homage to spaces and places. It introduces different points of entry to the discussion of migration and commemorative presence and is my interdisciplinary way to address how performance is transformative, connecting globally with local narratives. Defining communities through physical presence, Embarqued develops a conversation that affirms cultural identity through performance and expands upon the complex emotions it provokes. My goal is to elicit a kinesthetic response to what one sees, what one feels and what one does as a result.” – Stefanie Batten Bland
  • Company SBB Stefanie Batten Bland is an interdisciplinary dance theatre company performing original works by artistic director and founder Stefanie Batten Bland. Based in New York since 2011, Company SBB was founded in France in 2008, where it quickly caught the attention of presenters, fellow artists and audiences with its award-winning choreographic installations, riveting performers and intellectually ambitious creations. The company was hailed by the New York Times for its “full bodied movement… if the Matrix franchise had a dance company this would be it.”

  • Raquel, born and raised in Northern Michigan, has always been an enthusiastic, curious, and playful person. Throughout her life, she searched for ways to build strength but struggled to find a routine that minimized her lower back pain.  Yoga finally made it’s way into her life in the Fall of 2014. This practice offered relief after a lifetime of tension and pain in her body, and also provided an aid to reduce stress and anxiety in daily activities.
After experiencing so much personal growth, Raquel decided she wanted to share this relief with others, and embarked on an educational journey of yoga. She became a certified 200hr yoga instructor, February 2016. Her classes are invigorating and motivational, all while making you feel safe and supported no matter where you are in your practice.
